27/08/2011 - Cowal Highland Gathering
What a good way to end the season. A 6th place and a great march down the street. It was also great weather with the exception of the wee shower here and there which was a first for Cowal. Well done to all for this great result.

25/06/2011 - British Pipe Band Championships
Arriving after 10.am on an overcast day, we had an hour or so to wander the park before needing to start tuning up. We had a much better draw than the Scottish, playing a lot earlier, and it was agreed by all band members that it was a pretty solid performance. Hopeful of a prize, we had the afternoon to ourselves before having to assemble early for the marchpast as we were a leader band. Typical of the Scottish summer, the rain had come on at this point and we had to wait patiently for well over an hour for the results. However it was all worthwhile when for the second consecutive major we won 4th place up against some very good bands, another fantastic result in a season going very well for us so far. Long may the success continue!

12/06/2011 - Adrossan Highland Games
All the troops arrived at 2 o'clock and I was pleased to find one of largest bands Troon has turned out with. A full compliment of pipers and seven drummers across the back not forgetting the bass and tenors, if only Steven could have seen it, lol. This is always a good way to start the competition. The weather was kind to us most of the day with only one heavy down pour just before the march past, thank goodness for the new gazebo. Having played fairly well, we won Grade 3 and 2 with best drum core. This should give us all a wee lift for Annan in 2 weeks' time. Keep up the hard work and well done to everyone on Sunday.

05/06/2011 - Carrick Lowland Gathering
Sunday the 5th of June found the band at the 30th Carrick Lowland Gathering in Girvan. On a chilly but dry day, the band were hoping to keep their run of good form going with some good results. They were not to be disappointed. An excellent performance in Grade 3, followed by a reasonable run out in Grade 2 saw the band taking 1st place in both grades with a 1st place in piping and drumming in both grades. Drum Major, Sharon Smith, took 1st place in the adult Drum Majors contest and to cap it all off the band took the award for the best turned out band of the day.
Agreat day for the band, another three trophies won and a very happy Pipe Major. Roll on Adrossan Highland Games on the 12th of June.

29/05/201 - Millport Highland Games
Only the third piping competition of 2011 and Troon Blackrock doing well for placings. Stewarding this season, hoping for dry weather, if wet and windy not a nice combination for everyone taking part. Troon were hoping (as always) for a good result. All bands played well in all grades, so competition so good. Well suming up, weather was windy but stayed dry, every band were very well presented. A big thanks to Millport Pipe Band for their hospitality and homemade soup. Hope they continue to run their Highland Games as Troon Blackrock enjoyed their day. Stopping at Largs on our way home for chips and returning home via Kilmarnock to Mauchline and getting a very warm welcome from the crowds only to realise they were cheering for Auchinleck Talbot.

21/05/2011 - Scottish Pipe Band Championships
First major competition at the weekend. Very wet, lucky we had our nice new gazebos to keep us dry. The gazebos also kept my birthday cake dry as I was 16 at the weekend and the best present of all was that we came 4th. As it was wet the drummers' sticks were wet and the pipes were very moist, but all played well for the conditions. When my cake came out, I was made to wear a massive badge in which I refused to wear completely, I was forced to wear it. When we were ready to head home we had to wait a while as a bus driver had lost his keys to a bus that was sited on the road. Eventually a police officer came and told us turn and go out the other exit. That was our fantastic day at the Scottish Championships.

08/05/2011 - Gourock
Pipe band season officially started and guess what? It's raining!! So capes packed and off we went, wipers going at double speed. Arrived in Gourock to sunshine - not warm sunshine but sunshine none the less, pity about the freezing cold wind. Band went to find a "cozy" spot to tune up while the supporters found a cold vantage point to watch and cheer. Band played well in Grade 3 then a quick tune up and back to play Grade 2 which did sound better to my untrained ear. Unfortunately, the judges didn't think so and gave them a 5th in Grade 3 and a 10th in Grade 2. Then it was pack up chairs and head home to a warm bath and hot cup of tea (via Largs for chips of course). The life of a pipe band supporter - ye cannae beat it!!

26/03/2011 - Cumnock Indoor
Cumnock Indoor, well it's always a good competition as it is dry whether it is raining or sunny. Unfortunately, it was sunny and hot and therefore we didn't get to enjoy the sun as we were all stuck inside. The band members all tried to get outside when we had a break to soak up some of that sun that we were missing. We played well considering it was our first time out and trying the new tunes in public. We were fortunate to get a 2nd in Grade 3 and somehow we played better in Grade 2 and came 1st for that. So as you can imgaine, the band was pleased and well...we celebrated.

20/02/2011 - Fundraising Ceilidh
The band held a fundraising ceilidh last night. It was a fairly successful night. I would like to thank everyone that gave in donations and raffle prizes and to everyone who attended. I would also like to thank the people who worked behind the scenes at the ceilidh. It was a great night and I know that it isn't easy to organise something like this but I hope that this time hasn't put the committee off in having another one.
